Please share the Top 5 Canadian albums you put on your ballot.
Ron Sexsmith Long Player Late Bloomer
Louise Burns Mellow Drama
Olenka and the Autumn Lovers And Now We Sing
Robyn Dell'unto I'm Here Every Night
Michael Kaeshammer Kaeshammer
Tell us about your top-ranked choice. Why #1?
I chose Sexsmith at #1 because, first and foremost, the album is full of beautiful melodies and intelligent pop. But also, one of the great wrongs in music has been fans' neglect or ignorance of Sexsmith despite his brilliance as a songwriter. The Polaris would be a way to correct this sad oversight.
What record that's perhaps local or under the radar did you suggest to the jury and would like to plug here to the whole world?
My "under the radar" choice from my list is [London, Ontario songstress] Olenka Krakus, a highly original, quirky songwriter who crafts great tunes.
What was the first Canadian record you ever bought with your own money?
The first Canadian album I bought with my own money... Well, we're going back a long time, but I think it was Rush's A Farewell to Kings.
Which Canadian artist would you like to see get his/her face on the Canadian money?
Gordon Lightfoot should be on Canadian money. It would have to be a modern portrait, with his longish hair. He looks not unlike Laurier or MacDonald these days.
Imagine the tables are turned and you are the nominee: What would you do with the $30,000 prize money?
If I won the prize money, I'd use it to tour, because nothing promotes a new release like getting out and playing!
