David Morrison, staffer
Fascinating Rhythm, Nanaimo, B.C.
What’s your record store best known for (or: what’s unique about it)?
Oh, all manner of stuff! We have a colossal vinyl selection for starters, which tends to literally stop new visitors to our store in their tracks. We have tons of collector's items and buy and trade used stuff, which comes in every single day. So part of the joy of shopping at our place regularly is that new titles are flooding through the door constantly. You could buy five LPs/CDs in the morning and five more in the afternoon that weren't there on your morning visit...

Better Know A Record Store #17: Cosmic Dave's Vinyl Emporium
JULY 29 2011 • By Polaris Music Prize
Mark Browning, Owner
Cosmic Dave's Vinyl Emporium, Sudbury, Ontario
What's your record store best known for (or: what's unique about it)?
We're the only exclusively new vinyl record store that I know of out there. No CDs at all... Also, we merchandise things a little differently – going for that minimalist look, like an art gallery approach, with records facing out so that the artwork pretty much acts as store decor for us!

Megan Marshall, Manager
Compact Music (Ottawa)
What is your record store's claim to fame?
Music is our business. It has been for over 30 years. Many other ‘music’ stores have taken on DVDs, books, t-shirts, video games, gardening tools, etc. - we vehemently refuse. We are all music, all the time. And we’re not going to change
