Carolyn Mark & NQ Arbuckle Let's Just Stay Here

Tell us about your top ranked choice. Why #1?

A subtle departure from previous recordings, the latest from The Wooden Sky offers a healthy mix of folk, roots and pop delivered with an experimental heart and experienced polish. The album takes from a variety of rootsy influences to create something vibrant and exciting that gets better with every listen.

What record that's perhaps local or under the radar did you suggest to the jury and/or would like to plug here to the whole world?
Joshua Cockerill’s The Trick With Your Heart I'm Learning To Do It’s influenced and inspired by legends Neil Young and Leonard Cohen and contemporaries Blue Rodeo and Justin Rutledge. Joshua Cockerill is an alt-country rocker with a poet's soul.

Describe the state of the Canadian music industry in five words or less.

Better than ever and growing.

Imagine the tables are turned and you are the nominee: What would you do with the $20,000 prize money?

I'd probably get that new Harley I’m dreamin' about ... or head back to Europe. Then again blowing it all in a "rock 'n' roll moment of debauchery" is sorta attractive too!
