Tell us about your top ranked choice. Why #1?
La La Landeclipsed the solid, if not slightly quaint Parc Avenue in every respect. A road weary travel record, Spicer's ever improving vocals blended with haggard-sounding harmonizing perfectly to really give a sense of a space and time built on beers, tears and sweat. The guitars figure front and centre yet maintain an air of mystery (the end of "Celebration" being a particularly excellent moment where the guitars seem to emerge and fade). Album sounds like mud, but it's meant to not be overly pretty.
What record that's perhaps local or under the radar did you suggest to
the jury and/or would like to plug here to the whole world?
For a guy known mostly for remixes, CFCF's debut album Continent
was an absolute stunner. He has an unbelievable knack for starting
with a simple groove - sometimes cheesy - and being able to gradually
turn it into the next electrofunk epic.
Using five words or less, describe the Canadian music industry.
Fed funded festivals & fiestas.
Imagined the tables are turned and you're the nominee. How would you spend the $20,000 prize money?
Use it to legally purchase all the music I've stolen over the
years. Or a jacuzzi

You're right. Should have said "could", not "should". RT @KLMangan: @PolarisPrize Didn't say that, did he? Said he could be the underdog!
